Between 21 and 22 May 2025, the European Biodiversity Partnership (Biodiversa+) organised its first Science Fair under the motto “Novel technologies & approaches for biodiversity monitoring”. The event took place in the Spanish city of Barcelona, garnering interest from governance, science and business circles alike. Of particular note was the substantial attendance by contributors to research projects - in this regard, BioAgora was joined by partners from Priodiversity LIFE, ARISE, MAMBO, MARCO-BOLO, OBSGESSION, Biodiversity Meets Data, SEAGHOSTS and BIO-JUST. The programme incorporated a variety of topics and formats as participants deliberated on monitoring innovations and the prospects and challenges underpinning them in the context of biodiversity.
BioAgora itself was represented by its Monitoring Knowledge Exchange Network, one of several topical groupings aiming to harness thematic expertise in support of the future Science Service for Biodiversity. In that sense, the Network is meant to link ongoing monitoring processes, procedures and frameworks to relevant policy needs at the EU level. Maria Blasi, BioAgora partner and member of CREAF, led a showcase laying out this central goal and the efforts associated with it since the project’s launch. She also served as co-moderator at the Fair’s Science Café for novel technologies, which integrated inputs and insights from across the one-and-a-half-day agenda.
The highlights of the event are summarised here. More on BioAgora’s Knowledge Exchange Networks can be found on this page.
