BioAgora and the Transformative Pathways project are pleased to invite researchers to the first session of the new Nature & Economy Dialogues Series:
Getting to the Roots with (or without) Nature Credits
When: 3 March 2026; 13:00-15:00 CET
Where: Online
This new dialogue series connects researchers across disciplines to rethink the political and economic structures shaping biodiversity loss and recovery. The focus is on identifying and enabling the transformative changes needed to address the root causes of the biodiversity crisis.
About the webinar
In this inaugural session, we will zoom in on nature credits. What are they? How do they work? What are their potentials and limitations? And crucially - do they address the structural drivers of biodiversity loss, or mainly treat its symptoms?
The webinar will bring together different perspectives on nature credits and create an interactive space for joint reflection. Participants will be invited to explore the topic from economic, ecological, political and ethical viewpoints.
Preliminary agenda
Part 1: Introduction to BioAgora and the Transpath project
Part 2: Nature credits: definitions and key debates - tools for systemic shift or incremental fix?
-
Definition and typology of nature credits and their operating space
Speaker: Francisco Alpizar -
Debates within ecological economics: moral reflections and differing positions
Speaker: Alexandra Koves -
Bridging perspectives and introducing transformative change
Speaker: Jeanne Nell
Part 3: Interactive discussion and debate
Part 4: Invitation to engage in the Knowledge Exchange Network on Transformative Change and reflection on follow-up dialogues
Who should join?
We warmly welcome researchers from all disciplines related to transformative change. A special invitation is extended to researchers working within the EU Horizon Transformative Change cluster, as well as those interested in systemic approaches to biodiversity and economic transformation.
Join us in this interactive dialogue to critically examine whether nature credits can contribute to transformative change - or whether deeper systemic shifts are needed.
